School News

Dear Parents and Carers

Just to keep you informed on the “ins” and “outs” of principalship here at St John’s we have provided a photo of the incoming principal, Mrs Velma Erskine, taken with me during our Handover and Induction discussions held over the past two days. Hopefully, knowing what Vel looks like will enable you to say hello should you see her around over the next month. Vel will also be at our AGM next Tuesday evening to meet with the community. Do come along if you are able to, to hear the reports and enjoy the community socialising aspect after the meetings.

Well done to all involved in the Lapathon last Friday. Congratulations to Tracey Barrett and Jenelle Avins for your organisation of the event and to Emma Taylor and all the other parent helpers for their amazing support of every facet of the event. The children were kept watered and shaded wherever possible, laps and time in the sun culled and children creatively encouraged to slow their pace by the fabulous DJ, Courtney Waller. The sausage sizzle and icy poles provided by the P&F were very much appreciated too by the children. Well done to all Year 1 – 6 children too for your fantastic efforts during the ‘run’.

As our AGM approaches I am thrilled to say that most classes have had a P&F representative nominated. The Year 4, 2020, class still awaits a nomination although I am sure several people are considering taking on the role. I’ve also received a nomination for Board membership in time for our AGM next Tuesday.

Regards
Mary Bizzaca
Principal

Lapathon

Thank you P&F for a fun filled and fundraising day.

Girls Cricket

On Thursday we were competing against a few schools in cricket to go to the world-famous WACA. We were so excited to compete although it was an extremely hot day. Our first game was against Deanmore Primary School. Luckily we managed to win. So far we were already having fun and we were seeing some amazing cricket talents that barely anyone knew about.

Our next few games we also won. Our team players were Aqua, Mackenzie, Jessie, Chloe, Poppy, Addie, Sanna, Eva and myself. We all worked extremely well together and got great advice from Dad, Nikki and Claire. One of our tips was when getting a free hit off the cone to aim for the orange cones because if it gets past the orange cones it will result in an eight.

We had won all our games and had made it into the Grand Final against Baldivis. It was a tight game. We had beaten Baldivis before so we hoped to do it again. In the end we won the Grand Final and we will now play at the WACA on Friday. We are all super excited and we hope we can go on to play at the MCG.

• Christmas Cakes / Plum Puddings
• Mince Pies
• Long Life Custard

• Tinned Fruit
• Cordial / Soft Drink
• Potato Chips / Crackers
• Sweets / Lollies / Biscuits
• Tinned Peas / Corn / Beetroot
• Tinned ham / Tuna
