Dear Parents and Caregivers
The Lenten season continues throughout the remainder of this term and is understandably the theme of our Prayer Assemblies. This Monday the children viewed a youtube clip of a lady in Indonesia who benefited from Project Compassion funds that helped educate her and her village in the land management strategies required to save their village from deforestation.
Once again we spoke about the three essential components of Lent: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving. The fasting element can be achieved in a variety of ways during Lent and of course we hope it serves to develop good habits of mind in our children. We discuss ideas in class with our children as to what constitutes fasting. We explain that this might involve something like holding back on criticisms of others, gossiping about others or simply going without something that we really want but don’t necessarily need. I thought these draft points within the Parent Code of Conduct aligned well with the ‘fasting’ or holding back aspect of Lenten purpose too so have added them below. We often have to point out to our children that gossip causes a good deal of harm and heartache to their fellow classmates.
4. Respect the rights of teachers, other staff members, students and parents/guardians
• Do not engage in judgemental gossip. Ensure anything you say about others is fair, respectful and truthful.
• Speak positively about the teachers, other staff and school in the presence of students who attend the school.
This weekend we have a 6pm Commissioning Mass on Saturday evening for our School Board members, P&F Executive and any Year 6 students able to attend, in addition to Sacramental Commitment Masses for the Year 3, 4 and 6 students and their parents across any of the three weekend masses. The masses will be held at 6pm this Saturday evening, and at 7:30 am and 9:30 am on Sunday morning the 17th March. We include any Yr 6 students who are able to attend the 6pm mass within the School Community leaders commissioning process because they are all leaders in our school. All members of our community are very welcome to attend these Masses. Hope to see you there.
