Dear Parents and Carers,

Congratulations to our Year 6 students who completed the Sacrament of Confirmation last weekend. Well done to all involved and thank you to families, Fr Peter Whitely, Mr Goldie, Mr Alonzo, parish members and staff for helping these students to prepare.

Annual School Community Meeting and School Board and P&F Nominations 2021
Please join us for the school community AGM next Wednesday evening at 6.30pm. This is an opportunity to hear reports on the progress of the school in the past twelve months and includes a School Board Report, P&F Report and Principal’s Report. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate support for the community and the entities that work to provide the best educational environment for your child. At this meeting, School Board Members and P&F Executive Members are elected for 2021. The AGM will be held in the school hall. If you wish to hold a position on the School Board (School Advisory Council) or P&F Executive, nomination forms were emailed via SEQTA message earlier in the week. Nominations need to be in by this afternoon.
Staffing for 2021 will be announced at this meeting and refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the evening.

Staffing
At the end of this year we will farewell Ms Melinda Midson and Mrs Kelly Hochen who are leaving St John’s. We recently advertised and completed interviews for positions at St John’s Primary School for next year and we would like to congratulate and welcome the following staff members for 2021, Miss Taylah Ackland and Mrs Amanda Edwards.

Christmas Concert and Picnic on the Grass
Rehearsals for our end of year Christmas Concert are in full swing and our children are getting very excited as they prepare to wow us all with their dance and singing efforts!

Please join us from 6pm on the school oval for a picnic. Bring along your own picnic; picnic rugs and chairs to sit on. The Christmas Concert will commence at 6.30pm. This will be a wonderful evening for our whole school community. The evening will be an opportunity for you and your family to see the great work that the children have been preparing for as well as to spend time prior to the start of concert with other families, enjoying a picnic on the grass.

Pre Kindy and Kindy Information Sessions
Last week we held our Pre Kindy and Kindy information sessions, they were both very well supported by families. We look forward to welcoming all the new parents and families into our community next year.

Booklists for 2021
A number of parents have asked about booklists for 2021, these will be made available in the coming weeks on the school website.

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK

Where there is falsehood, let us bring truth.
Where there is prejudice, let us awaken trust; where there is hostility, let us bring respect;
Where there is sensationalism, let us use sobriety; where there is superficiality, let us raise real questions;
Where there is ambiguity, let us bring clarity; where there is exclusion, let us offer solidarity;
Where there is shouting, let us practise listening; where there is confusion, let us inspire harmony;
You are faithful and trustworthy; may our words be seeds of goodness for the world:
Help us to speak about others as our brothers and sisters.
Help us to remove the venom from our judgements.
Help us to recognise the evil latent in a communication that does not build communion.
Lord, make us instruments of your peace.

Amen

Year 6 Camp

Year 6 had a wonderful 2 day camp at Ern Halliday recreation camp in early November. The weather was beautiful and the students tested themselves on some challenging activities including, archery, beach activities, flying fox and the Big Swing. Everyone had a terrific time and went home on Sunday morning very happy after a big breakfast.

NAIDOC Assembly

Last week the Year 5 class presented a NAIDOC Week Assembly, comprised of the history and stories of the local Aboriginal People, a retelling of an Aboriginal Dreamtime story about the Waugal (Rainbow Serpent) and some songs sung in Aboriginal Language; Wanjoo (Welcome) and I Am Australian (Translated into the Yawuru Language of the Traditional Owners of Broome). The assembly was a beautiful and reflective way to begin our NAIDOC week in which classes across the school completed activities and created art pieces.

Remembrance Day 2020

The 11th of November 2020 marked the 102nd anniversary of the Armistice of World War 1. It is an important day – a day to remember all of those men and women who have fought for their country.

On Wednesday, we marked this occasion by having a whole school assembly, commemorating this important event in our nation’s history. We observed a one minute’s silence at 11am in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.

The Year 3 students delivered poppies for each child to wear at the assembly.

Year 4 Assembly

On Wednesday the Year 4’s did an assembly about Australian animals.  Liza Harvey MLA was in attendance to watch their great show.
