Dear Parents and Caregivers,
R U OK?
Today is “R U OK? Day” This is about reminding us to check in with those around us and making sure that everything is OK. It’s important that if we haven’t heard from someone in a while or if someone is behaving differently that we check in on them to see how they are going. Speak with your children about who they trust and who they can talk to if they are feeling unsafe or insecure. There are many resources available on the RUOK website and the following link shares with us how we can approach asking whether someone is ok and what to do in a range of situations: https://www.ruok.org.au/join-r-u-ok-day
Fathers’ Day Mass and Breakfast
We were very fortunate to have our dads, grandads and father figures at school for our Father’s Day Mass and Breakfast last Thursday morning. What an outstanding sign of a strong and committed community!! Children whose families are involved in their schools and support the mission of the school including building good relationships between home and school are most likely to experience success and aim for higher outcomes. Thank you to all for attending and demonstrating your commitment and support for your children and our school. Thank you to the wonderful St John’s staff who were here very early in the morning setting up and preparing for the breakfast – your efforts are much appreciated.
Father’s Day Stall Helpers – Thank you!
We would like to say a huge thank you to all the mums who helped in preparing the many gifts for our Father’s Day stall. A special thank you to Jess Cossom, Sarah Perotti, Nadia Khalaf, Rachel Lowden, Joanna Baird, Zsofia Guczi-Kidd, Trina Cunningham, Jennifer Stevens and Diviania Nogueira who set up the stall and sold all the gifts on the day. We would also like to thank The Healthy Bunch Doubleview and Settler Hives who both gave us great discounts on their stock.
Athletics Carnival
Last Friday all students in the school from Year 1 to Year 6 had a fantastic day competing in the School Athletics Carnival. The students were able to enjoy participating in both the track and team games events. All students are to be congratulated for their efforts and for trying their very best for their Guild.
The carnival was well planned and coordinated by Mr Sanders and we thank him for his fantastic effort in making the Athletics carnival an enjoyable day for all. Mr Sanders was disappointed that he couldn’t be there on the day, however he did hear that we managed to get through all of the events. A big thank you goes to all the staff, parent volunteers and Year 6 parents for all that they contributed on the day; all of your efforts attributed to the success of the day.
Year Two Assembly – Friday 9 September
Miss Joyce’s Year Two class will be presenting their Assembly tomorrow and we can’t wait to learn about all of the wonderful things that they have been doing in class.
Book Fair, Open Night and Art Exhibition
Throughout the week we have had the opportunity to hold our first Scholastic Book Fair in the Learning Hub. The Book Fair is a great opportunity to get some early Christmas shopping done and proceeds help us to purchase more books for our school! The Book Fair will finish up at the end of today!
Week 9 Open Night – Classroom visits
Over the past few weeks the children along with teachers have been busily preparing for Open Night which will take place next Tuesday 4.30pm – 6.00pm. Open Night forms a part of the reporting process at St John’s Primary School. Open Night enables students and teachers to showcase to parents / carers the learning experiences and processes provided to our children at St John’s. We look forward to seeing you all throughout the week.
GRANDPARENTS’ LITURGY AND MORNING TEA (Week 2 Term Four)
On Wednesday 19 October, we will be hosting a Grandparents’ Liturgy and Morning Tea. This is always a very special morning for all grandparents to have the opportunity to share part of the school day with their grandchild/ren and to observe the learning that takes place in the classrooms. Invitations will be sent home in the coming week and I ask you to please forward them on to grandparents.
The role grandparents play in the lives of their grandchildren may differ significantly but they all share a unique opportunity to help shape the future through their involvement in the lives of their grandchildren.
2023 Enrolments and Families Leaving – Please Notify the School in Writing by End of Term
As the school undertakes the process of preparation for the upcoming school year, it is important that we are made aware of possible movements both in and out of the school community. The end of any school year is a busy time for many families insofar as transfers due to work or other personal circumstances. With position vacancies in some year levels quickly being filled and with growing waiting lists, it is essential that we are made aware as soon as is practical of either new enrolments or of families who may be leaving St John’s at the end of school year.
A reminder that, as per our enrolment contract, the school requires written notice one term in advance if students are leaving St John’s. Therefore, if your child/ren will not be returning to St. John’s in 2023 (unless they are a graduating Year 6 student) please notify us in writing by the end of this term to admin@stjohn’s.wa.edu.au
And Finally…
FINDING A TREASURE: A treasure is not something we earn but something we find. We can spend a lot of our lives wishing and hoping that some treasure will come our way. We can forget that we already possess a wonderful treasure in our loved ones and in the gift of life itself. And the greatest treasure of all is the kingdom of heaven which Jesus freely offers to us. May we have the wisdom to seek our treasure in God, and not in the glittering goods of a passing world.
Wishing you all a wonderful week.
God Bless
Velma Erskine

Year 3 Excursion to the Zoo
The Year Three’s visited Perth Zoo last week for an excursion! The students ventured through the zoo and got to see the different animals that they have been writing information reports on. Students explored the similarities and differences of the vertebrate classes with some of the most interesting and exciting animals from across the world. In small groups, students investigated the characteristics of animals and determined what class of mammal those animals belong to. It was such a wonderful day!
Year 4 Excursion to Perth Mint
This week the Year 4’s were lucky enough to have an Excursion to the Perth Mint. The students got to view the largest gold coin in the country, watch gold being poured as well as find out how much they are worth in gold! They had a fantastic day learning more about Australia’s Gold history and currency – which has been a key Mathematical concept over the past few weeks. A big thank you to Mrs Whittaker and our beautiful parent helpers for coming along today too.

Let’s see if everyone can learn a new trick by the end of term. Have a look at the following videos for motivations to try something new!
