School Board
Request for Board Members, 2020
The School Board plays a vital part in the leadership and life of St John’s, with a particular role in the financial management of the school. Members generously volunteer their talents and skills to support the present and future planning of the school.
The Board currently meets on a monthly basis, on the third Monday of the month.
The Board shall carry out the following functions in pursuit of its objectives:
- planning for the present and future operation of the school;
- disseminating information about the school and about Catholic education to persons and organisations in the school community;
- managing all the finances associated with the school;
- giving due consideration to school policy with financial implications.

St John’s School, Scarborough is a Catholic co-educational, single stream primary school catering for 225 students from Pre Kindergarten to Year 6. Our academic, social and pastoral programs enable students to grow towards their full, god given potential.

The Board holds its annual general meeting in conjunction with the P&F’s AGM at the school’s Annual Community Meeting in November.

2019 Board Biographies
Sarah Waddle
Board Chair
Community and Communications Sub Committee
Sarah is the Fundraising and Alumni Relations Manager at The University of Notre Dame Australia where she has been responsible for managing the fundraising and university relations engagement program since 2008.
With more than 15 years experience in the education and not-for-profit sector, her expertise spans major gifts fundraising, capital campaigns, grant writing, event management, marketing and community relations. With a strong commitment to volunteerism, she has served on various non-profit boards and committees and is passionate about giving back to the community.
Sarah joined the Board in 2016. She also Chairs the Community and Communications Sub Committee.
Sarah and her husband have three young boys, with the eldest two currently at St John’s in Year 2 and Kindergarten.
Greg Wheeler

Finance Sub Committee
Greg is currently the Chief Executive Officer for WGH Holdings Pty Ltd, a private family office which owns and controls large agricultural assets both in Australia and overseas. Prior to this Greg was the Finance Director, Company Secretary and Chief Financial Officer for the public company Wellard Limited, one of Australia’s largest Agricultural businesses where Greg oversaw the Group Finance, IT, HR and Media Relations functions.
Previously, Greg has served as the Group Financial Controller for the public company Austal Limited and has previously worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers, Westpac Bank, City of Stirling and Dominion Mining.
Greg joined the St John’s Board in July 2018.
Greg has three children with his youngest two boys currently enrolled at St John’s in Year 3 and Pre Primary.
Lisa Rutherford

Board Member
Lisa is currently an Associate Manager at International Bank HSBC where she manages a corporate team of analysts.
She has had an extensive career, spanning over 20 years in Corporate Banking. Lisa has worked in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth where she has been involved in Project Finance, Merger & Acquisition and Event transactions across multiple industries. She also has experience in Education Infrastructure funding and liquidity management.
Over the past 12 years she has worked with both local and international based corporate entities. Currently, Lisa is heavily involved in people management and project roles focussing on improving efficiencies and process across the Corporate Bank. She is married to Paul and has a son, Jordan in Year 3 and daughter, Abigail in Pre Kindy.
Andrew Durkin
Board Member
Assets and Maintenance Sub Committee
Andrew has worked in the international construction and development industry, with leading project management firms, design consultancies and top tier contractors. In May 2017 he was appointed Managing Director of the NS Group, a professional advisory and project management consultancy that specialises in advisory and management of land assembly; urban renewal and built form projects across Australia.
Outside of work and school commitments, Andrew is an active member of North Beach Soccer Club where both his children play.
Andrew joined the St John’s Board in December 2015. He also Chairs the Assets and Maintenance Sub Committee.
Andrew and his wife have two children, a son in Year 5, and a daughter now in Year 7 at Sacred Heart College.
Richard Barrett

Richard is an experienced strategic advisor and has held a number of high-profile and executive level roles in Australia and the UK, predominantly in the infrastructure, public transport, roads and ports sectors. He is currently the Director Corporate and Government Affairs at Pilbara Ports Authority – the world’s largest bulk export port authority.
Richard, who joined the Board in November 2017, has three children at the school – Year 5, Year 4 and Pre Primary – and is passionate about the St John’s community. He brings expertise in all aspects of communications, corporate affairs, government relations, governance, marketing and major project coordination to the Board.
Luke Willcock
Board Member
Assets and Maintenance Sub Committee
Luke is the Manager of Commercial Services and Economic Development at the City of Subiaco and has over 15 years experience in property development and asset management in commercial and public sector environments, including 9 years with LandCorp. Luke has a good understanding of all facets of the property and asset lifecycle, from acquisition through to development, management, leasing, maintenance and disposal.
Luke is a Fellow of Leadership WA, a Graduate of Australian Institute of Company Directors and has served on a number of not-for-profit Boards.
Luke and his wife Suzanne have two daughters Eva and Claudia.
Luke joined the Board in November 2018.
Mary Bizzaca

School Principal
Mary has been principal of St John’s Primary School for the past six years. She has been a principal of two other Catholic, single stream primary schools, prior to her appointment here, preferring the more personal, pastoral care aspects of smaller schools.
In addition to her 30 years plus teaching experience and 21 years as a principal Mary has also worked at CEWA as a curriculum consultant and presenter in both Literacy and Early Childhood.
A previous student of St John’s, Mary has revelled in the opportunity to guide further development of the school facilities and in following her passion for challenging teacher growth for greater student learning.
Father Grant Gorddard

Parish Priest
Father Gorddard was appointed Parish Administrator to The Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Scarborough in August, 2018.
Growing up in Bunbury, one of four children, Father Grant attributes his parents as the ones who nurtured his faith. After working as an electronics engineer for six years Father responded to a call from God and, after 7 years of study, gained his Masters in Theology and was ordained into the priesthood in August 2015. Father Grant’s younger brother Stephen was ordained at the same ceremony.
Alan Hoffman
Board Member
P&F Representative; Vice President of the P&F
Alan is an experienced general manager and company director having held national and state manager roles in organisations such as Shell, Wesfarmers, Coventrys and diverse organisations including the WA Farmers Federation and the Royal Aero Club of WA and has a strong working knowledge of IT systems.
Alan and his wife Melissa have two sons, one in Year 6, and one in Year 8 at John XXIII College.
Alan joined the St John’s Board in February 2019 as the P&F Representative. Alan is also the Vice President of the P&F. He brings expertise in high level general management, finance management, board communications and corporate governance.
